We're thrilled to feature this delicious coffee from the Gishubi region for the second harvest in a row. Heza Coffee Washing Station is the second processing site established by the Long Miles Coffee Project (LMCP), a key trading relationship that spans many years.
LMCP is a microlot business. All of their infrastructure, systems, employees, and marketing are designed to support large numbers of unique and fully traceable coffees. Their work involves the successful coordination of hundreds of farmers and processing staff, along with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices and fair pricing to ensure the coffee is as delicious as possible.
291 farmers across Gishubi Hill are registered partners with LMCP and receive not only highly competitive prices and post-harvest premiums for their cherry, but also training and education on covering canopy, fertilizer development, pruning, harvesting for quality and integrated pest management. These trainings are all provided by local “Coffee Scouts”, LMCP’s team of community-based trainers who serve as local instructors.
The education and high prices combined have helped many of LMCP’s farmers renew their faith in coffee as a long-term livelihood. Long Miles works with 5,500 farmers between their 3 washing stations, servicing 11 different hills.
As expected, this coffee is delightful. With notes of raspberry, lime, maple syrup and orange, and a big, creamy body, it presents a truly indulgent flavour profile.
We’re incredibly excited to be revisiting our partnership with Long Miles in 2024, pledging $5000 to their Trees for the Kibira initiative. Our donation will help educate Gishubi coffee producers through model farms and field school training back at origin.
