Kenya, Thambana Kiungu AA - Single Origin Espresso

We are excited to introduce Kenya Thambana Kiungu AA  to our single origin coffee family. Kenyan coffee is known for its distinct flavour profile and unique characteristics, and this one stole our hearts from the moment we tasted it.

This coffee was processed by Thambana Farmers Co-op at their Kiungu factory in Embu county. Over 800 local farmers contributed to this lot and the result is nothing short of extraordinary. The cup is full and syrupy with flavours of blackcurrant, peach tea, jasmine, caramel, fresh butter, and crisp apple. It is simply a must-try!

Single Origin Coffee Description

We are excited to introduce Kenya Thambana Kiungu AA  to our single origin coffee family. Kenyan coffee is known for its distinct flavour profile and unique characteristics, and this one stole our hearts from the moment we tasted it.

Our coffee hails from Embu county, one of many coffee growing regions in Kenya. The area’s close proximity to Mount Kenya forest provides the surrounding land with fertile soil and ideal conditions for growing coffees. 

Approximately seventy percent of the Embu population are small-scale farmers and producers, growing tea and coffee as their main cash crops. The farmers in the area group together to form a cooperative that helps them gain better access to resources, training and business opportunities.

Our coffee was processed by Thambana Farmers Cooperative Society at their Kiungu Factory in Embu county. Over 800 local small farmers deliver their coffee cherries to the factory. The cherries are then carefully hand sorted to remove the underripe, overripe and defective cherries from the lot. The coffee cherries are fermented overnight and washed the next day to remove sticky mucilage. The cooperative then grades the coffee by density to determine the quality before further grading at the auction.

The final result is nothing short of extraordinary. The coffee is full and syrupy with tasting notes of blackcurrant, peach tea, jasmine, caramel, fresh butter, and crisp apple. It’s simply a must-try!

  • DOSE - 22g
  • YIELD - 38g
  • TIME - 35sec
  • TEMP - 96°C
  • RATIO - 1:1.7

This recipe is for espresso and developed on a commercial coffee machine. Use as a guide to achieve your desired flavour preference. If you are unable to reproduce the exact result on your home machine, don’t panic, an alternative is to simply adjust your recipe using the ratio so it works best for your set up.
