We’re very pleased to share with the coffee community that we have reached our goal to raise $5400 for The Gitesi Project!
The Gitesi Project is a grassroots initiative that places dairy cows with coffee farming families, and in more recent years has expanded to also provide health insurance for the poorest members of the community. It was founded in 2015 by Aime Gahizi together with Tim Williams, founder and CEO ofBureaux Coffee here in Melbourne.
For the second time, we teamed up with The Gitesi Project through our Good Coffee Doing Good initiative. GCDG is all about making an impact locally and globally by highlighting inspiring stories and raising critical funds that contribute to meaningful projects like The Gitesi Project.
To reach our goal, we released a stunning coffee from the Gitesi Washing Station in Rwanda’s Karongi region and donated $3 for every 250g of the coffee sold from March to June this year.
For this campaign, we were fortunate enough to secure nearly double the amount of coffee than what we had for the first campaign in 2021 - which meant we could double our impact. This meant more customers could participate and make a difference with their coffee purchase!
We raised almost twice as much money for this campaign equating to approximately three dairy cows, and health insurance for around 20 people for coffee growing families in the Gitesi region. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to GCDG and enjoyed their Gitesi Rwanda coffee.
Whole Beans: Best within four to six weeks of roasting. Properly stored beans can last up to eight weeks if stored right.
Ground Coffee: Best within one to two weeks after grinding.
The best method is an opaque, airtight container stored in a cool, dark place at room temperature. The back of the pantry is the perfect spot!
In the bag is fine if there is a valve and you’ll use it in the next two weeks. If storing for any longer, transfer coffee from its bag to an airtight jar for better protection against air and light.
Freezing coffee can extend its freshness if stored correctly. Ensure the beans are in airtight portions and only defrost what you need.
Freezing won’t ruin the flavour if the beans are properly sealed. Exposure to moisture and air, however, can degrade their taste.
