Espresso — Beans, Gear, and Everything In Between
This is everything we make and stock for espresso. Beans roasted specifically for espresso extraction, machines, grinders, accessories — the full setup. Whether you're pulling shots on a Breville Bambino or a La Marzocco, it all starts with fresh beans and the right grind.
Our espresso roasts are developed for the 25–30 second extraction window. That means a slightly darker roast profile than our filter coffees — enough development to give you body, crema, and sweetness, without tipping into bitterness. Every blend in this range is tested as espresso on our bar before it goes out.
Choosing Espresso Beans
If you're after something consistent and reliable — a coffee you can dial in once and trust for weeks — start with one of our espresso blends. They're designed to be forgiving in the cup and work brilliantly with milk.
If you want more complexity and you're comfortable adjusting your grind, try an espresso-suitable single origin. The flavour range is wider — you'll get more acidity, more fruit, more of the individual character of the coffee. Check the tasting notes on each bag. If it says "espresso" on the brew method, we've tested it and it pulls well.
Getting the Best from Your Setup
Grind is everything with espresso. Seriously — the difference between a great shot and a bitter mess is often a single notch on the grinder. If you're buying whole beans (and you should be), invest in a decent burr grinder. It'll make more difference to your cup quality than upgrading the machine.
A few things that help: use water between 93–96°C, aim for a 1:2 ratio (e.g., 18g in, 36g out), and time your shots. If you're getting into it, our brew guides cover the fundamentals. And if you need gear, our brewing equipment range has grinders, scales, tampers, and everything else to set you up properly.
