Single Origin Espresso Coffee Description

Nestled in the village of Suke Quto in Ethiopia’s Guji zone, this coffee comes to us from Sookoo Coffee’s natural processing station—founded by Ture Waji in 2017. Ture is one of Guji’s leading coffee figures, building a reputation for precision and excellence in naturally processed coffees. We didn’t realise when we first purchased this lot that it came from the same producer as our Bookkisa release, but the quality in the cup made it an easy yes.

Sookoo Coffee works with smallholder farmers in the region who harvest heirloom varietals from semi-forested plots at high altitude. These conditions, combined with careful processing, contribute to the incredible complexity and clarity of this lot. After handpicking, the cherries are dried on raised beds for up to 15 days—developing dense sweetness and vibrant fruit character.

While Guji’s coffee reputation is more recent than its neighbours Sidamo and Yirgacheffe, the region has quickly gained acclaim for its distinct flavour profiles and rich cultural roots. Coffee farming here is deeply embedded in the heritage of the Oromo people, who have cultivated these lands for generations. Despite the increasing pressures of deforestation and market instability, producers like Ture remain committed to sustainable, community-focused farming.

Suke Quto stood out on the cupping table for its clarity, fruit depth and creamy texture. It’s a beautiful natural that highlights the integrity of Ethiopia’s heirloom genetics and traditional practices. We're thrilled to offer it in partnership with Langdon Coffee Merchants.
