We’re proud to announce our latest Good Coffee Doing Good campaign raised $2820 for the Gitesi Project, an initiative benefitting coffee farmers in Rwanda!

Our latest Good Coffee Doing Good campaign featured a delicious coffee from Gitesi Washing Station in Rwanda. Through sales of this coffee, along with sales of GCDG merchandise, we raised funds for the Gitesi Project - a charity that supports coffee farmers in Rwanda.

The Gitesi project was founded in 2015 by Aime Gahizi (co-owner of Gitesi Washing Station) and Tim Williams (founder and CEO of Bureaux Coffee) as a way to support Rwandan coffee farmers. It achieves this by giving dairy cows to coffee growing households, and in more recent years has expanded to also provide health insurance for the poorest members of the community.

The Gitesi Project has had a number of proven positive social impacts on Rwandan communities. These include improved food security and health outcomes, increased agricultural production and increased household income. Because the practice of giving cows is so ingrained in Rwandan culture, the project has also improved social cohesion.

You can read more about the history of Rwanda and why the giving of cows - or Girinka - is an important cultural practice in Rwanda in our previous story about this project.
